Davina was her name and she pleaded that I should not write this, that I should not expose her to the world. Apologies, sweet Davey, whose standard would I bear if your starlit eyes had not so pleaded. Those days are gone.
These are the opening lines from The Stormer, another hilarious, romantic comedy novel by award winning writer, Gurmeet Mattu.
It sees struggling artist, Hugh, think he’s made it when he’s commissioned to paint a mural on the gable end wall of a tenement in his beloved home-town of Glasgow in Scotland. He paints a nude of his long-lost first love, Davina. But she’s married to a senior cop now and he’s not happy about this portrayal of his wife, naked. He sets a police unit the job of fixing Hugh.
Bruised and battered, Hugh defies them all as he and Davina discover what they really mean to each other.
Enter a whimsical world where romantic ideals meet sheer idiocy, featuring a biker called Midden, a tramp called The Shame, a gang leader called Slab and a stunning, gorgeous, redhead called The Stormer.

The Sunday Times called the stage version “…an off-beat romantic comedy, full of incident, colour and suspense".
Other readers said – “The Stormer is absolutely marvellous. It should be on the best seller list. The writing is superb and light and joyous and hilarious.”
“I really like this. There is a deceptively easy style of writing.”
“In its warm glow of humanity - though never forced nor cloying - I saw a lot of Bill Forsyth's movies, that great west of Scotland artist; Hugh's dealings with the neds, the "friendly shag" gesture of the biker. The people and their reactions are real; the only hint of villainy, as is suggested, comes from the possessive copper who obviously wants to button down his beauty of a wife, while the bold Shuggy wants to set her free. Great humour and married with fine storytelling.”
“Superb characterisation, the city as much of a character as the people. Enjoyed immensely, very well done.”
“ When I finished this I sat around trying to think of something that was as original and funny as the text I'd just read...I failed. This is written with a pacy, easy prose; its full of clever conversation and is very entertaining.”
“This is really, really enjoyable. I love the opening sentence, piqued my interest. There is a natural quirky way of writing which made reading this captivating. It motors along at a decent pace. Has enjoyable characters and witty dialogue.”
“I like this a lot, a heck of a lot. It is easy in its skin, has great characters, pace and faultless dialogue.”
“Original, enjoyable and down to earth. Fun reading that doesn’t take itself too seriously.”

The Stormer edition by Gurmeet Mattu Literature Fiction eBooks
Although the title might make one wonder what the subject of this book is, only a few pages into the book, and the reader recognizes an offbeat, humorous and joyful love story.Hugh, the hero of the tale, is a struggling but talented artist, and like the author, is a resident of Glasgow, Scotland. He is, at the beginning of the book, busy "beautifying Glasgow" by painting a huge beautiful nude on the end of a tenement wall.
The nude is named "The Stormer" and is a painting from memory of a sweetheart from Hugh's youth, who he has not seen for years (and who he has never seen nude).
Nearly everyone in Glasgow loves the picture, except "The Stormer's" husband, who happens to be a senior policeman who is outraged and causes nearly endless problems for poor Hugh.
Many wonderful and quirky characters populate the book. The entire story and it's wonderful humor, left me with a smile, and a happy glow which lasted long after I had finished the book.
